* Fees must be paid at time of registration in order to be registered. As we must remit payment 30 days prior to all trips, refunds will not be made after that period unless we are able to fill the seat with someone from a waiting list. Full refunds will be given with written cancellation prior to the 30‐day cutoff. If you are not confirmed for a trip at the time of its departure, you will be given a refund in full.
All seats are reserved for the individual registered, regardless of who
made the payment, and will be filled with the next registrant from the waiting list upon cancellation. In order to be fair to all registered, transfer of the reservation to another individual is not permitted. Trips are only open to guests if seats remain available after open registration. All trips have minimum and maximum capacities.

da Vinci Surgical Robot and VIP Luncheon

CJW is on the cutting edge of Robotic Surgery! This special event at ChippenhamHospital, in the Bosher Auditorium (1st floor of the Levinson Heart Hospital) will bring you up close to this innovative Robot. Begin the afternoon with a VIP luncheon where Dr. Dipin Gupta - Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and Dr. Marijan Gospodnetic, OB-GYN, will discuss and demonstrate the newest minimally invasive surgical procedures using the da Vinci Robot. Dr Gupta and Dr. Gospodnetic will discuss the benefits of using the da Vinci Surgical System, including faster recovery time and fewer complications. This is an exclusive event only open to LLI members and their guests! We will meet at LLI to carpool (departing at 11:00) to the Hospital where we will receive complimentary Valet parking.

Chrysler Museum of Glass Art

This "glass studio is so hot, it's cool!" Watch the Collection come to life before your eyes! We will
experience a Glass demonstration that will explore the many processes and techniques employed to create these objects. They emphasize glassmaking as an experience through narrated performances and experiments. We will travel to Norfolk to the Chrysler Museumof Art for a Glass Blowing demonstration followed by a guided tour of the Glass Art Galleries. Lunch will be at the Freemason Abbey. You will then choose to return to the Chrysler Museum where you will have more time to explore on your own or the coach will drop you at the DouglasMacArthur Memorial if you choose.

Winter Wildlife and Whale Watching Boat Trip

Take to the seas for a two-hour adventure in search of all things winged, finned and wonderful!  Virginia Beach's food-rich waters attract all kinds of seabirds and even the migrating whale close to our shores in cooler months, making Winter Wildlife Boat Trips exciting outings to share with family and friends.  Your oceangoing adventure with Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center begins on board a large, comfortable boat with heated cabins and generous viewing spaces.  From your vantage point on deck, you'll be on the lookout for brown pelicans, northern gannets, double-crested cormorants and other waterfowl making dramatic dives and splashes as they feed on schools of fish.  Aquarium educators will accompany you to narrate your trip and share information and artifacts - including actual whale bones.  Nature's playground even in winter, these waters are traveled by humpback, fin and sometimes right whales as they complete their Atlantic migrations.  Attracted by large schools of menhaden and bay anchovies, these giants of the sea are spotted lunge feeding, slapping their tails and flippers, or even breaching to check ot their surroundings - giving viewers an unforgettable experience.  Lunch will be at Rockafeller's at Rudee Inlet follwed by the whale tour.

Richmond's Historic Churches II

Visit Monumental Church, constructed in 1814, the structure is a memorial to the 72 individuals that died
in the Richmond Theater Fire of 1811. The ashes of those who died in the theatre fire are buried in a crypt beneath the floorboards of the Church. Famous parishioners included Chief Justice John Marshall and Edgar Allan Poe. Listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1969, the program will be presented to us by the Historic Richmond Foundation. View the Church Hill area of Richmond, named by THIS OLD HOUSE magazine among the best old-house neighborhoods in the country. Visit St. John's Church, where Patrick Henry gave his famous speech, "Give me liberty or give me death". The church program, which is led by a costumed docent, explores Patrick Henry's political career and the implications of his speech. Enjoy lunch at the Tobacco Company Restaurant, all-inclusive with tax, tip, beverage, entrée and dessert. Following lunch, your guide will lead the bus tour through Hollywood Cemetery, one of the country's most beautiful cemeteries and one of Richmond's major attractions. Known for its sprawling, garden-like settings, rolling hills overlooking the James River and incredible monuments, many as exquisite as art sculptures found in museums today, Hollywood Cemetery is the final resting place of Presidents John Tyler, James Monroe and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, plus 18,000 Confederate Soldiers.

This day trip is a follow up experience to the earlier presentation by CaptainMike. The James River runs through it…through the City of Richmond. And just minutes downriver is an incredible opportunity to see bald eagles year round! This tidal river tour will take you into the midst of an ecosystem rich with wildlife, abundant in history and overloaded with beautiful scenery. Ride aboard the Discovery Barge II, a comfortable 24-foot covered pontoon boat and experience majestic bald eagles closer than you may have ever seen them. And if you have never seen one, you are in for a surprise! Bring your camera! Binoculars are provided. A small pop-up head (bathroom) is available on board. Each trip is limited to 6 participants and all filled boats will get a $5 discount per person. Participants will meet at LLI to carpool.

Tappahannock River Cruise & Ingleside Winery Tour

Cruises on the Rappahannock River navigate one of the country's most historic waterways. The 184-mile river in eastern Virginia stretches across the entire northern part of the state, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Chesapeake Bay. Early Virginia Colony settlements were situated along the river before the Revolutionary War, and during the CivilWar the river was the de facto boundary between the North and the South. Enjoy a pleasant 18 mile narrated day cruise on the Captain Thomas, a two-deck excursion boat, from Tappahannock up the Rappahannock River, with stops at Leedstown and Wheatland. At Leedstown, passengers travel by bus to Ingleside Plantation Winery for tours, wine tasting and a buffet lunch.

Barksdale Theater’s “Bifocal Players”

On August 1, 1953, six actors, two children, a dog and two pigs moved into a historic ruin called Hanover Tavern. The transplanted New Yorkers founded Central Virginia’s first professional theatre, and named the company in memory of a deceased college friend, Barbara Barksdale. Barksdale is now recognized nationally as Central Virginia’s leading professional theatre. The nonprofit company continues to grow, challenge and share as it seeks to build upon a legacy of artistic excellence and community service. Barksdale's "Bifocals Players" produce shows starring actors age 55 and older and bring their performances to the LLI Chesterfield stage.
